Why I Made The System

Swing and miss and that's your turn.
Magic incoming? Good luck on your save.
That's why I made Sundered.
Because every other system I played was packed with imbalance, ambiguity, and single point failure.
Failure That Means Something
In Sundered, you don’t whiff because your techniques target Ability Scores.
Spells, attacks, all of it — when you fail, it’s because your opponent was better positioned or prepared in the moment, not because they have an unreasonably high armor stat.
You feel how powerful your enemies really are. Not because you can't hit: because you’re facing a real threat.
This also means when you're targeted, your build matters:
- Not some mechanical floor set by the system.
- Not some broken AC that, if you don’t chase, makes your character ineffective.
- And definitely not because playing a martial means waiting for your wizard to save you.
The Sundered Formula
The d20 system as it stands is a HUGE swing and miss. The number shouldn't be behind the screen when it's a matter of how your character interacts with the world they know.
Allow me to introduce you to the Sundered Formula:
DC = 30 – Your Ability Score
So it matters when you invest in what your character is good at, lowering the DC and increasing your modifier.
My formula ties everything to the world, the opposition, and the moment. You know what you’re up against. This system is honest.
Tactical Depth, Real Options — Without Paralysis
There are always options in Sundered, but you’re never paralyzed.
It’s OK to miss and conserve resources because you can counter.
It’s OK to hold your action; you'll still be viable if the circumstance changes.
And you can always just attack. You don't have to be tactical to impact the flow of the fight.
No more waiting half an hour for your next turn to feel meaningful.
Techniques scale with the Source you spend — increasing the targets, the effects, and/or the damage.
I'ts more than “upcasting" to burn expensive slots for little to no change. Everything has weight, and your decisions matter.
A Single Resource, Real Consequence
Sundered’s core resource is more than economy:
- It scales damage.
- It ties into the narrative.
- It keeps everything balanced.
A knife doesn’t magically deal a third of what a two-handed axe does. Skill sets the floor. Your choices set the ceiling.
The system is tuned around making your wild ideas work.
The Bottom Line
Sundered gives every roll a reason and every choice a cost.
This is the system you've been waiting for.
Sunder your game.
