Why Sundered is Different
Dark, demonic figure with glowing red eyes and massive curved horns, its chest radiating with a fiery red core. Metallic armor and arcane bindings wrap its body, with glowing lines of power tracing across its blackened skin

Agency. The Dividing Line.

In some systems, agency is granted by the GM in the form of:

  • “Sure, that’s cool.”

or

  • “Yeah, you can definitely choose that… if you don’t care about being under-tuned.”

In Sundered, agency is the core of the game.

One Source

All character abilities flow from a single pool: Source.

It flows at a rate determined by you. You determine your own action economy based on the risks you’re willing to take.

One Formula

Instead of:

“Oh, I guess it’s kinda hard. Let’s say 15. Now you can all have a go.”

Sundered uses a single, consistent check:

DC = 30 – Ability Score

Your expenditure of Source modifies that formula and your narrative circumstance.

This shifts players and Game Masters to the same side of problems the table faces. The GM still decides what’s possible, but the design emphasizes that your character is alive and owns their place in the universe.

These 3 simple changes are the tip of the iceberg.
